We are holding over for the weekend - first time in awhile (it's a little chilly here in the pond.) IN the pond!

Still holding the Oct 670 puts (OEYVN) that we hopped into at $14. Should have hopped out with $1 when we could - hmmm.
Will hold onto them and see what happens up to market close - might consider getting out at $14 - if we can.
Right now the position is down, but with this market we are probably OK.

OK, we didn't bite on the "Bull Trap" today. We were looking at calls... but (insert broken record here) the signals said stay out for now... ribbitt.
Our entry into the Oct 670 calls (OEYJN) would have been at 16 1/2 and they touched 17 then dropped to 16.
Good Toad, good signals. Looks like that's it for September.

Can't see one I'd like to be in yet - when it gets interesting, I look at the market on a 5 minute chart and realize it's not going anywhere. Trin is ..95 - yawn.

This is the last day of September and the last day of the quarter. More indicators came out today that we might not see interest rates raised - looking for an up market at open and then.... stay tuned.

Mixed signals today and the rally failed... OK, OK, it wasn't really a "rally" - but even if we woulda hopped into puts, we'd be holding over.
Bad things can happen when we are in the pond overnight, Bad things man.

It didn't charge UP like someone thought it would... urp.
BUT our entry point on the puts we woulda hopped into (Oct 670 puts OEYVN - again!) was 15 1/2 and they only hit a high of 16 - so we woulda been holding over! Not good.

Durable Goods numbers are in and shouldn't have much of an impact on Fed thinking. It's still a will-they-won't-they situation.

I think it was the lunch bunch today that got me. RIGHT AFTER LUNCH - our puts (that we sold already) hit 18 3/4 - - - RIBBITT! Well, we made some green and we are happy.

We hopped out of the Oct 670 puts (OEYVN) at 15 3/4.
Sweated it out earlier when it hit 16 1/4 and felt we shoulda hopped out sooner. I kept hearing this voice that said "GET OUT" and this time it wasn't Mrs. Toad - it was me. (Hmmmmm... thinks he's a Toad and talks to himself - I like this guy!)

Here we are eating bagels and embarrassed again. Looked long and hard at the Oct 670 puts (OEYVN) and just couldn't pull the trigger (oops, hit the mouse.) Were considering them around 19, they ran up to $19 1/2 and the A/D and other indicators didn't convince me. So, we are still flat and watching.
Oh, the 670 puts are 16 1/4 X 16 3/4 right now.... I'll be regretting this when they hit $30 today!

Looks like we might see a little pop up after open and analysts are expecting a mild rally today. We were getting close to testing the lower limits so a mild rally will make a lot of people happy.
Oh, and there is a Fed meeting...

We are just little green toads... we'll keep an eye on things.

Where, oh where was the 3:00 rally? Was close to having "back up" signals three times today - so really expected to see a rally at 3:00 today - looked like we had the start around 3:30... geez. Just heard on the news - most everyone else expected the same; right with the wrong crowd (or is that wrong with the right crowd?) See you in the morning.

We didn't even check the market until last night - what happened on OEF?

Speculation is that traders were correcting their shorts and HAD to buy on OEF. (I could go for the cheap joke, but I'm fighting it!) SO, the market went UP and stayed up on OEF! STILL glad we took OFF!

Just looked at a chart of today's option (Sept 695 puts) and TOAD +15 would get you $12 - hmmm...
Going down now, who knows what's going to happen the rest of today? Hey, I do. We are NOT going to trade anymore today, probably start the after-Floyd cleanup around the pond.
Tomorrow is OEF (Options Expiration Friday) and we WON'T trade that day & suggest you do likewise. Check out our site.

Guess that was the best move - staying out.
No way could we catch the first wave this morning and then it looked better around 10:45 when we did consider the 710 puts (remember them? we traded them twice this cycle.) Looked at them around 10 1/2.
They ran up to 11 3/4 X 12 but that was it....
This market has a strange response to everything - feels like strong support at 699.

Flat and windy.

Good morning, we are here - watching the pond. The weaker than expected CPI core rate will give us a strong opening - great reason for dumping those puts yesterday! Stay tuned...

9/14/99 Evening OEX -3.96
As we said earlier, we Shoulda Coulda Woulda hopped out of those 705 puts at 7 3/4. Didn't really consider it as we thought the market would stay with us and we could get our 8 1/4.

Hurricane Floyd (Click here for info.) might just pass close by us instead of hitting the pond. Parts of town were evacuated today and the evacuation orders didn't include us. Our mayor announced tonight that IF Floyd continues on the current path, we should be OK. Projecting winds of 50 mph gusting to 75 most of the day tomorrow and we might lose phones and/or power.

SO, we expect to be here at the pond in the morning, see you then...

Lowering our sell to 7 1/4 doesn't make much sense now. SCW hopped out when they hit 7 3/4.
We are still holding and watching closely, will try and get something out of these. Thought the lunch-time crowd was hurting us and we would go back to a rapid drop after lunch. - DIDN'T happen. Can't trust that lunch-bunch.

Look at today's charts; a wave of buying in the pond just in the last hour took the OEX from -2.59 to +2.15 after several analysts gave higer ratings on the internet sector.

Wasn't sure if we should mention this... but, here goes:
Today was 9/9/99 AND it just happens that our page counter hit 99999 today - coincidence???? I THINK NOT!
(We forget when we reset the counter - oh, yeah - it was 99999 hits ago...)

Even though Mrs. Toad and I have Dr's appointments, it will still be BAGEL time and it's still your turn to bring them.

We are FLAT cause we dodged a bullet, considered the Sept 710 puts (OEZUB) again - but the short spurt downward was tooooooo fast for a Toad to catch.

WOW, didn't expect the market to turn around so fast, just knew we wanted out. We really thought they were going to hit $13 or maybe $14 as soon as we hopped out - were just uncomfortable staying in.
We had a bunch of opportunities to get out with a buck and that's where I was going to set the sell ($12) after we sent out Update #3, but then the indicators started going our way and I left the sell at $13, until we lowered it to 12 3/4 and got out.

The puts we were considering when the market was moving DOWN don't look too good right now. CNBC says we have unusually light volume for the day after Labor Day.
Staying by the side of the pond. OK, we were really looking at the 710 puts.... at 8 1/2 or 9. They are currently running around 8 5/8. Hmmmm.... good Toad.

OK, we looked at the Sep 710 calls (OEZIR) at $12 and didn't hop in. Guess what - they are now running 11 X 11 3/8 (Bid Ask) - glad to be flat.
A/D still big time toward the A's. Hmmmmm.... Look at the TICK, it just hit +2.

Not much of a start for September - a little up, a little down. Reminds us of hurricane season at the beach - swells up, swells down. Not looking for much to happen the rest of the week as it is the last BIG opportunity for a vacation.

Mrs. Toad commented that the trading floor looked empty today - maybe everyone is getting an early start. After the 80 million shares trading in the last 6 minutes yesterday, volume would seem low today. Signals were all in our favor today for staying FLAT so that's what we did. Yep, that was a great example of TOAD +10 today. We hopped in at 12 and it promptly went against us - saw it dropped as low as $11 and we did consider picking up 5 more contracts. SCW - maybe we weren't THAT sure.
Then, when we hopped out at 14 1/2, well... it hit 15 1/2 and finished the day at 14 3/4. You know this is NOT complaining, because we don't complain whenever we make money! Green is our favorite color.

p.s. Mrs. Toad asked me if I'd like to go back to Napa Valley in October, we still have plenty of wine from our trip, but we do have a BUNCH of California Toadsters who missed the last Toad on the Road - let us know if you are interested.

Frustrating day with the indicators saying it's a gonna go down and the market slowly creeping up since around 13:30.
All indications say it's the August factor...

Yes, it looked like we shoulda hopped in at 15:20 - pretty late in the trading day to get into the pond.
The advancers JUST now went ahead of the declining issues, but the calls are backing off again. Strange, strange market.
The two calls we woulda been serious about (715 and 720) are back down to where we woulda entered. Have I mentioned this a strange market??

Yep, the European markets and Globex said market was going UP.
Looks like a down day so far, we see some support around 711 - if we break that, it might really drop. We have been in a trading range the last hour.
Thought we liked the Sept 715 puts awhile ago, down now.

Now the market wants to go UP, Durable Goods* numbers were perceived as good news, rally in European market and GLOBEX is up - hold on.

*(Durable Goods Orders are considered a leading indicator of manufacturing activity, and the market often moves on this report despite the volatility and large revisions that make it a less than perfect indicator.)

Surprise, surprise, surprise... not the Fed's announcement, but the market's reaction. Really expected to "ride the wave" as we have done successfully in the past, many times. Not today, as we said earlier, let's blame this on the August low volume.

It sure looks like ANY play would have been a mistake. We were tracking 3 puts and 3 calls up to the FOMC notice.
When it came out - the market hopped UP, DOWN, UP and then it's been sideways. ALL of the positions we considered are now DOWN - doesn't make any Toad sense.
In notes to Toadsters I speculated earlier today that it is due to the LOW volume.
Let's stay FLAT.
